Dishwasher Sanitize Bottles

Submerge bottles nipples caps and rings in a pot of clean boiling water for at least five minutes.

If you opt for the bleach solution use boiled water to rinse the bottles and let them drip dry. If your dishwasher has a sanitize cycle all the better but it s not necessary. Sanitize cycles in dishwashers sometimes take multiple hours. Spray about 2 to 3 times.

The sanitize cycle has both a legal meaning and a practical one. When possible run the bottles on a hot water cycle and heated drying cycle or select the sanitizing setting. You may use bleach or a commercial cleaner to pre clean the bottles. For something to be considered sanitizing the environmental protection agency looks for removal of 99 99 of bacteria.

Place all small parts including rings valves and nipples in a dishwasher safe basket to prevent them from falling to the bottom of the dishwasher. If you have a dishwasher you are in luck. Then sanitize your bottles in the dishwasher or use a bleach solution. This should be enough to coat the inside of the bottle.

A regular high temp wash kills anything in the bottles. Gather up your bottles and arrange them on your countertop. Just put the rinsed bottles in i can fit about 55 in my dishwasher using the short bottles on top and run a high temperature wash and dry with no detergent. I rinse my bottles out after i drink them then run them through the dishwasher with the other dishes and store them in a box with the lids open i use spring top bottles before i bottle i wash them out by hand with soap rinse them out until the soap is gone and run them through the dishwasher on the sanitizing cycle without detergent.

Let them soak in the solution for at least 10 minutes. Press the sanitize button on the front of your dishwasher and then the start button. Using the spray bottle with your sanitizer solution pick up a bottle and place the nozzle of the spray bottle right near the bottle s opening. Remove the bottles and parts from the dishwasher and allow to air dry on a clean dishcloth.

Don t stop the cycle early or you risk having bottles that are not sterilized. Allow the dishwasher to do the entire sanitize cycle before removing the bottle items.
